Hey I am Ashton Deroy. I graduated Loyalist College in December 2019. Now you may be about to attend Loyalist College. Or maybe you are considering relocating for opportunities and you are wondering. What is it like to work in Belleville Ontario? Here are the bullet points you need to know for a fast and convenient read.

1. After 6 years I have no savings. Not an exaggeration all my money is taken in rent. I can’t just collect disability for income despite brain injury that effects my vision and causes shaking. Cause I would starve if I tried.
2. Most of the jobs are either Retail. Which most people want. Manufacturing jobs are notorious for destroying health. Both mentally and physically.
3. Companies are running lean on Employees. Which does not mean they are hitting the desired efficiencies they are just squeezing too much out of employees. Creating hostile workplaces, lots of competition. Not to mention the injuries and burn out. Which are plenty. Pressure needs to be put on Companies to say ‘No you are not finding profit. You are breaking the operation and we are sick of it! It’s your job to ensure appropriate staffing so do it!”
4. Belleville Ontario remains in a state of emergency with our homelessness situation. Why is this? Jobs don’t pay enough. Social supports don’t pay enough. There isn’t enough social housing. There is other housing which rich people , seniors & Corporations hog. To no benefit of the lowest wage earners. Conservative Monetary policies from the Province downward have destroyed the Economy for my generation. Voters must be held accountable for loss of life, Loss of wages and destruction to lives of many individuals interpersonally. We don’t need another Conservative Government. We need Business owners to pay people fairly or drop dead. The same is true for Conservative voters.
5. Programs like Elevate Plus? These programs only seek to undermine benefits workers were getting. Like paid Training. This is unpaid Training. When I was offered this program at Meta? They told me it was 4 weeks of unpaid training and I would have to arrange my transportation to Quinte West. To which I said ‘Oh Hell no!” The guy running Elevate Plus is huge in to ableism. Disabled people are a drain on the system according to him. (They are not. Rich people are.)
6. Belleville Ontario refuses to fix the gaps in Transit which will always throttle both productivity and hurt the people who live here. Coming to Belleville Ontario? You will be walking. A lot if you want to keep your money.

Thinking about coming to Belleville Ontario for opportunity or College? Once again I ask. Please do not. We are still trying to fix this town. Coming here may just makes things worse for you and other people. We want the college to take a hit in student registration decline. We want this town to be more for workers and people on Social Supports. Less for Seniors, the wealthy and Corporations. Cause they let the town get this bad. They must be held accountable. Let me very clear. You could die here!!! If you choose to relocate.
