Ashton Deroy ‘Awesome ‘entertainment” I just don’t understand why an entertainment company that promotes local businesses needs Volunteers.”

Bay of Quinte Pride ‘Ashton Deroy thank you for reaching out. To clarify, we are not an entertainment company. We are a group of volunteers who spend a lot of time and energy putting these festivities together to help make our community a better place for everyone. We ask for volunteers mainly for the parade and the park as we cannot be everywhere at once. The local businesses that are involved have nothing to do with us, nor are they asking for volunteers. They are simply supportive venues we use for our annual events.”

Ashton Deroy ‘Bay of Quinte Pride How do you get them to support your organization? What is in it for them? By the way by saying ‘festivities” at all. It still sounds like an entertainment organization. Want to make things better for people in the community? Do what Bridge Street United Church does. Help our homeless LGBTQ population. Trust me they are out there.”

Ashton Deroy ‘Bay of Quinte Pride To me this all sounds like Entertainment, Tourism, and Marketing still.”

TJ Best ‘Ashton Deroy you might want to check your facts before making assumptions. There are a whole lot of us (who appreciate a chance to break out of isolation while watching entertainment, by the way) that could refute this unsubstantiated claim but might not have time for arguing needlessly. An action committee on homelessness sounds like a fabulous idea though. Are you willing to take that project on?”

Ashton Deroy ‘TJ Best Am I from the government or a Non-Profit? This is plain deflection and I am not interested.”

Ashton Deroy ‘TJ Best If all the company does is do entertainment events. Then it is ‘an entertainment company.” That is not that difficult to understand. No matter how sentimental you position things. By the way that has been the go to for this organization is to use Sentiment. I am not interested. I am a Business Grad. I am looking at what the output is as a BUSINESS.”

Ashton Deroy ‘The Problem is Pride Companies end up turning into scams disguised with Non-Profit titles. Then benefit from volunteerism and benefits tied to Municipal Tourism. What I am getting from this conversation? Is that you guys use sentiment to hide the fact. You mainly work in entertainment. Then there is also the fact a Pride Company can be dressed up in activism even if it achieves nothing of value to the social fabric of the community.”

Ashton Deroy ”I am transcribing this to WordPress. Be happy for that. It means more Digital impressions for the Calendar. Even if I don’t really buy what the organization is selling.”

Ashton Deroy’s Conclusion

Volunteerism is overused in this community to keep municipal budgets lean and rob potential hourly workers, especially younger ones. Hence why this area had high use of the Youth Jobs programs. I am fighting against the narrative of normalized free work. Non-Profit status is used a lot. Even in Companies where administrators are taking significant kickbacks. I am not saying that is happening here but I also can’t say it isn’t happening. Especially when Organization members muddy the water and disguise conversations with sentiment and accusations thrown at me of making unsubstantiated claims. Meanwhile, I am not a registered Non-Profit to repeat. I am not working for the government. As stated previously on this page I am a Writer & Researcher to expose scam work practices. I use my Business Diploma to asses For-profit and Not for Profit companies and expose scams.

Question?

Is Bay of Quinte Pride a Scam?

At the very least I don’t think it clears the bar for what volunteering is ideally for. Why do I think Pride is an entertainment organization? Well 1. I worked for a Pride Organization. We weren’t helping the community but we helped Bars move liquor. Donated a little money to HIV research in Kingston Ontario but overall I wouldn’t say the company needs Non-Profit status. 2. I will say I know Candace Meeks uses her Position in Pride. To Promote LGBTQ Theater. However after discussing Politics with me? I am really mythed she thought I wouldn’t speak out against practices such as using Volunteers. 3. The Other Problem is you can look at Pride and see an entertainment company dressed in activism but not actually doing any activism of value. Pride started as a Protest! Now it seems it just does Tourism, Entertainment and Marketing with a Non-Profit label it shouldn’t have. Wal-Mart and McDonald’s ask you to make small donations to charity after every purchase. Does that make them non-Profits?

did you use volunteers when you worked for a pride organization ? did you consider yourselves an entertainment organization?

    >Wal-Mart and McDonald’s ask you to make small donations to charity after every purchase. Does that make them non-Profits?

no. the charities are the non profits. walmart and mcdonald’s are the venues. they’re volunteering to collect money for those charities.

    1. Hey Philip I didn’t recruit volunteers personally but when I worked for Pride Organization? I did begin considering it an entertainment operation. Like I said when Kingston pride became more concerned with Selling Booze? Then the community at large. Yeah I began considering it entertainment not a Socially beneficial service. Also it takes a lot to get these organizations to stop bugging you for free work when you are their volunteer. I felt I had to engage in a scandal to break free of Kingston Pride back in 2016. The volunteering was feeling more stressful than my actual job.

So what youre upset about is that pride organizations are hosting events at venues that sell booze? You understand that the pride organizations are not the ones selling the booze right? And that making a night be worth while to the venue owner encourages them to host more pride nights, which fosters more acceptance and inclusion of pride community members?

as opposed to people like you trying to wring money out of organizations for themselves, making false and misleading statements and organizations and individuals fosters distrust and hatred among community members. So who’s really doing more damage here?

Take a look in the mirror sometime and ask yourself if what you’re saying/doing actually makes sense. To me it sounds like a lonely selfish frustrated man trying to scam his way into getting paid to do nothing

      2. No I get it. You are saying venues make Profit off of LGBTQ Inclusion and that magically makes them tolerant. Hire more LGBTQ people. Then all social ills are cured! Wait…. Then why are so many LGBTQ people still at the poverty line? Scam my way into doing nothing? I don’t know they say I am pretty good at advocating for Consumer Protection. I think you need to do your research and by that I mean Kiss my ass!
