In 1999 Ontario’s Conservative Provincial Government made Mandatory Volunteering a requirement for graduation from High School. From this point there became a coercive element to Volunteering in Ontario whether people like it or not. I do hope for a day that this ‘Work requirement” Is removed as a barrier from High Schools. Since I was 14. I have thought Volunteering is a useless practice that robs people of their time and workers of dignity. If you are Political in Ontario? Removing the Volunteer threshold for graduation. Is something I want to see happen in my lifetime. In the meantime. This is my revenge crusade against the volunteering practice in Belleville Ontario. Don’t force me to do work I don’t want to do! Remember High School is about getting an education. Not about filling a sentence given to you by a judge.

Some people were probably shocked to see me asking people not to Volunteer with Bay of Quinte Pride on the Blog and on Facebook. To sum it up basically this isn’t an organization that should require the use of volunteers. It is a Entertainment focused organization and an organization used to sell drinks at bars. Let’s stop pretending Non-Profits aren’t Businesses. Or that everything they do is good. I have also made my criticism of Belwood Lodge & Camp clear. How I think not being properly inspected? Is going to lead this camp into killing someone. In the name of a Disability Camp!

Why I am against Volunteering in Belleville Ontario? It robs people of their labor value. It does not solve pressing problems in the community. It prevents expressing the need to run a Government with something other than a Conservative budget. Let’s be real. Fixing problems cost money. We can’t fix those problems with an event designed to sell beers in a Bar. The fact that a lot of these non-Profits don’t have oversight or release their financials is also a particular concern.

Another volunteer operation I have issues with is Quinte Trash Bash. Cleaning our communities should be a job for somebody. I don’t think removal of bird carcasses and feces should be done on a volunteer basis. Call me idealistic. I think Volunteering should be reserved for our most urgent social welfare demands. Not for picking up the trash, organizing entertainment or RUNNING A CAMP WHERE 16 YEAR OLDS BATHE FULL GROWN MEN! Belwood Lodge & Camp

Let me be clear. As a Loyalist College Business Graduate. I think many Non-Profits are a cancer! They over use volunteers, exploit people for work they should not do and don’t really benefit the community. If we want real change for the better? We should do government spending, create jobs and boost the quality of life for the average citizens. Not indulge rich people/Religious people pet projects.

Why I am anti – Co op? It doesn’t really lead to anything or teach you anything. I did a Co-op in High School at Riverside Music in Quinte West. Sure kept their floors clean! Didn’t really benefit me as a professional looking to grow their presence in the community. It was job robbery of my labor value. Which I guess I was taught to normalize as a teenager.
