Pride Month in Belleville Ontario usually starts sometime in June. Here is the link to Bay of Quinte Pride. If hanging Pride Flags was Pride’s only sign of success? Belleville would be ahead of the game. You see Pride Flags at Best Buy, outside SportsChek, Pride ads at Tokyo Smoke & at Meta Employment Services. However what has really changed for LGBTQ2S++ people in Belleville Ontario?

Many of us still live in conditions near Poverty. Or we literally live on the streets. We are passed over for Promotions, we aren’t taken seriously despite being some of the best free platform Writers in the town. What has changed for Belleville Ontario? Why should we take this alleged Progress seriously?

Something I see a lot of. Is Pride flags where I see no LGBTQ2S++ working. You have these Businesses touting how Progressive they are. Yet they don’t even have a Progressive staff. How can we say they are truly a proud Business & not just doing it for the Marketing?

Mission: I hope what I can get across in this? Is that Pride is not simply a Marketing Cause. It is a call for Justice & equity as well. A simple Pride flag shouldn’t position someone as Tolerant. Their actions should position them as tolerant. Symbols are for the Symbol minded. This is my call for Justice and equity.

In 2023 I tried to use my Business Diploma and relationship with a then manager Meaghan at Tokyo Smoke Belleville Ontario to apply for an Assistant Manager position. Instead of going with me upper management hired a straight man with no High School education & less experience on the job. I was more clearly qualified and fun fact I have never flipped out on another employee for no good reason. I was denied a promotion. Meaghan the then manager received Pregnancy discrimination. All from a company that claims to be LGBTQ2S++ Inclusive. Cannabis is supposed to be one of the more accepting spaces in Business. Cannabis is becoming just as bad as every other sector in Belleville Ontario. Best Buy was no better. A Company that hangs a Pride flag in the break room. Has a bunch of papers on being a mental health positive company. Yet when cuts need to be made? Bye bye Disabled Gay guy. Not once was I ever given the chance to go home early for mental health or physical health issues. I was held to an unrealistic performance quotas though & fired before I could finish training. I did feel Straight workers were favored over me.

I’ve been told by a friend Valen. That it is just normal for people to shout ‘Pedophile!” At two gay men on a date. Both of whom are the age to consent. This piece will attempt to collect data on living in Belleville as apart of the LGBTQ2S++ . I want to discuss anything from shopping, working to trying to find a place to call home. Reach out to me at AshtonDeroy@gmail.com . We can discuss being LGBTQ2S++ in Belleville Ontario and the hardships you face.

Clearly Living in Belleville Ontario has not improved for queer people just look around.

Rogers Communications in the Quinte Mall has a Pride logo, but why? Do you employ gay people? Do you prioritize them for layoffs? I don’t know what Pride Symbolism means anymore. Now during the time I was at a Rogers Communications call center contract? I was treated well. At that time. I was given mental health breaks & time to grow in to my position.

I just feel bitter that you see these things up. Yet I still struggle to get a job as a Queer person in Belleville Ontario.

See how a simple mission to create reasonable doubt? About baseless food poisoning accusations. Invites a disgruntled Belleville Ontario customer to do immediate Queerphobia.

One response to “Pride Flags of False Progress.”

  1. […] To tie this into Pride Flags of False Progress. See how automatically me being queer is tied to me somehow being Liberal? I mean yes I am Liberal Federally right now. However I am not the one that started the conversation. The point at the end of the day. Is that reducing someone’s queer identity to their Politics is a form of Prejudice. It is a form of prejudice I frequently face. Operating in spaces out of Belleville Ontario . I was merely attacked for defending one of our town’s lovely chain restaurants from a probable slob. Multiple comments on this page said what I said. That it was very unlikely the restaurant made this person sick. Belleville Ontario is a low income area. The idea this person might be a slob is not at all far fetched. It is kind of like jumping to the most possible conclusion. […]
