Okay so in real life. I am the nosy kind of friend when my contacts actually post their own Content on Social Media. Not a bunch of recycled memes. I saw my friend Candace Meeks was in a play January 11th 2023 at River & Main Theatre Company . Basically it was an affordable play 6 minutes from my house. That is why I went.

Above is an embeded EventBrite Link you can still get tickets for this performance.

Beware of Spoilers:

Basically it was a Lesbian drama. It had concepts of morality, fidelity and feminism. I was moved by the death of the main character in the finish. Genuinely this gets a 5 star review from me. I said to the lead Teresa Marie Allen at the end of the play. ‘As an alcoholic I can related to never wanting the party to end.” With the main character they never wanted the party to end in the face of her own mortality & falling in love. With a love that almost seemed like it wasn’t to be. I didn’t want to stop having reckless fun myself but, I knew it was probably better for my relationships long term. If I smartened up & only smoked weed once in a while. The play also has mention of fidelity and feminism. Hard to believe in the 1970s mainstream feminism was not overly accepting of lesbians but that statement would be accurate in most places. Conservatism is an illness that won’t die in that sense! As for fidelity? Cheating is so common in LGBTQ culture. It is practically a cliché that any creative works with queer characters is going to deal with concept of normalized monogamy versus the reality of wandering eyes and thighs. Personally my lived experience is a queer man has lead me to say ‘I wouldn’t even be upset if someone cheated on me. Fidelity is not the norm for LGBTQ culture.” I’m glad the main character was a bit of a player previously though. It keeps things interesting & relatable. Like that is the reality I know.

Call to action

I encourage anyone from Belleville Ontario to see this play this week. Listen the content on Disney Plus, YouTube and Netflix is actively rotting your brain out. I’ve seen it and lived it. Click the link below and grab a ticket. Use your brain and absorb the real life emotions of the people around you. In my case it lead me to connecting with an old friend from Public School. I am seriously glad I went. Click here to go to the Eventbrite page.
