I just want to say Arthur Martinez works at Best Buy. I consider him still a good friend & a good salesman.

However when you employ someone on Disability for 1 month? Then proceed to fire them. You put them in to Poverty! I have been paying money to get to work and dig myself out of debt. Meanwhile ODSP gets clawed back as soon as I start making over $1,000 a month. This is why you need to call out companies. That promise benefits but only employ you short term.

The accusation that Best Buy is a High Pressure Sales operation is now presentable with evidence. As of November 26th 2023. This article was written October 9th 2023. It took a more passionate tone which was unprofessional. The Daily Dot article below is proof High Pressure selling is a part of Best Buy’s corporate culture. Now the article can be rounded out with evidence and an explanation of what high Pressure selling is. Why it is is bad?

The article above on the Daily Dot cites a case where a Customer was trying to exchange a Macbook Computer for a same model in a different color. During this interaction the customer service representative was not able to resolve the customer’s issue. However one of the resolutions pitched was signing the customer up for the Best Buy Membership. Then working out a deal on the Device exchange. This was wrong. As a customer service interaction they should of just processed the exchange.

What is high pressure selling? High pressure selling is an attempt at controlling the sales interaction. To Pressure the customer into making a purchase. This is a basic understanding but it is really a manipulation. Salespeople are told to hit targets and if they don’t they lose their jobs. Like me for the record! While this company doesn’t use it? Many companies teach something called Verbal Judo. Which is a type of Communications Manipulation tactic in order to bend someone to your will. Well Best Buy Never did Verbal Judo training with us. They had their own version with a emphasis on personal selling approaches. Approaches such as… ‘Oh you are buying this laptop for your kid? You should probably buy a protection plan. Cause your kid might break it and we will make it impossible to afford servicing it if they do.” I Ashton Deroy can verify in Belleville Ontario at Best Buy I was made to sell this way. The High pressure sales approach also works as a barrier to good customer service. I can say confidently as someone who did Customer Service upwards of 8 years.

Why was this wrong? Unlike what Supervisors at Belleville Ontario Best Buy will say. This was an upsell. Too bad you don’t like that Term Best Buy Supervisors. Go to Business School or Work For Rogers Communications and learn what an Upsell is. The customer was not there for reasons related to the membership. They were there for an item exchange issue cause they were unhappy with their purchase. The Membership was irrelevant to the needs of this customer at this time. It is wrong because it is a manipulation placed around the customer’s core wants. This customer was not being unreasonable.

Rather than relying on volume sales like a traditional Retail model. Best Buy is relying on Service & Warranty sales to keep them in Business. ‘I didn’t want to bend the will of my customers. I did not want to push things on them by saying things as (You have to get this.) As alleged about my ex colleague Avi in Belleville Ontario. I wanted to provide good service and mention revenue enhancing products with every sale. Like a good Salesperson does. However I did not want to force anyone to get anything they didn’t want. That is the difference between a good salesperson and a manipulative one. As far as I am concerned Kishan was drinking the Corporate Koolaide. He wanted me to be a manipulative salesperson and it isn’t in my character. Best Buy should be appalled by the Corporate Culture they have created for themselves! They should know people will avoid them for alternative retailers with better less expensive service if things don’t change drastically.”
