Congrats to Mayor Neil Ellis for grabbing the Amazon Business for Belleville. Here is why they are screwed? At least if they came here for cheap effective labor. This is a retirement community with a large College Population.

1. The Average full time worker is 40 or moves like it. Since many of them are not very healthy.
2. Low education workers. Not very good at comprehending directions.
3. The Transit system does not support long or erratic work hours. Which rules out low income workers without their own transportation.
4. Many people in town just in general feel they should be making more money than they are. They are getting ready to speak up about that.
5. Lots of part time availability with the College. Honestly Loyalist College is where the best workers will be from.

If Amazon doesn’t come ready with serious offers for wages & benefits. Belleville Ontario will let it sink. Much like we did with HGS, Magna & Etc. Belleville Ontario is not a town of hard workers…. Not for cheap it isn’t!

I recently learned from talking to an ex Magna employee. That they spent a great deal of time behind on EV manufacturing targets. Or delivered products under the necessary quality. This touches on something I have said before. We have to make sacrifices to get quality & educated workers in Belleville. You can not get them through an offering of the bare minimum. “Minimum wage = Minimum effort.” Is often a motto used by good workers but they are the workers who are quiet quitting.

Side note: I see no point in quiet quitting personally. If something went badly on the job. I am for communicating it. Even at the risk of breaking non-disclosures for companies who behaved without ethics. Usually you can find a way around it. You probably should as well… Companies behave way more unethically when they think they can silence the broad base of workers.
